Pendulum for Timing & Tempo

When using a Pendulum while practicing putting, full swings, chip shots or pitch shots, it will give you a visual aid to perfect your Tempo and Timing.

When the Pendulum begins to moves from left to right, you need to begin your backstoke at that exact same time. When the Pendulum reaches its extreme right, your backstroke should be completed at that exact same time. When the Pendulum reaches its bottom or lowest point, your club should strike your ball at that exact same time.

Do not be concerned with the length of the Pendulum movement. It will always take the same amount of time to go from left to right. Your stroke length need not be the same length as the Pendulum, it just needs to take the same time.

The Pendulum length is set at to give a one second beat. When the Pendulum goes from its extreme left to its extreme right, it will take exactly one second and when it goes from the extreme right or from its extreme left to the center, that takes a 1/2 second.

When you are practicing a putting stroke or any swing, you should take twice as long in time for the backstroke and 1/2 that time for the forward stroke to ball contact. A 2 to 1 ratio.

The Pendulum string length can be adjusted. Shorter for a faster tempo, longer for a slower tempo.

In this video for putting, notice that the putter begins the backstroke when the Pendulum is beginning its downward path from left to right. When the Pendulum begins its movement from right to left, the putter starts its forward stroke at that exact same time. When the Pendulum reaches its low point your putter should strike your putting ball at that exact same time.  This would be a very good tempo.
